Collage on Cotton Rag Paper
I created this artwork in late 2020 as we were in the thick of winter and I was really feeling the impacts of the pandemic on my own mental health. It was holiday season and my loneliness and past trauma were surfacing. I took the opportunity to go inward and do some of my own healing work, and this piece is a reflection of that.
In this piece, the figure is looking backwards to explore the wounds of the past. I am understanding the patterns that have traveled from generation to generation, and exploring how I might break some of these patterns, especially the toxic ones.
In this print, I began experimenting with creating patterns and backgrounds from my leftover shapes. I really love the look of the patterns and it would end up being something that I would continue to repeat throughout the next few months.
