11 x 15 inches
collage on cotton rag paper.
This collage is part of a series of new works created during quarantine. While the pandemic has brought hardship, it also brought spaciousness to make new work. I’ve had limited physical contact with other humans since March 13th, which was the date that my home, the Bay Area, was directed to shelter in place to prevent the spread of COVID19. This moment has been a tremendous gift for me because it has given me time I did not know I needed. The fact that I completely halted my traveling means that I have more spaciousness and mental bandwidth to explore new ideas, and process the many emotions that the pandemic is bringing up. From the start of the pandemic, I’ve been working with social justice leaders to help organize for solutions that address the impacts of this crisis. I spend a lot of time digesting news while also imagining what this moment means for our shared future. I also am in the midst of a personal transformation in my mind and heart, like so many others. All of these intersecting realities are present in the work itself.
