Collage with Screenprint and Linoleum Block Elements on Cotton Rag Paper
This series of femme characters celebrates the sassy, eccentric, unapologetic, wild femme. Over the last few months, I have been creating portraits about femmes of color and the powerful work we do within our communities as well as the work we do to heal and transform ourselves.
For this series, I wanted to create character diptychs and incorporate some of the patterns and elements that I've been using throughout previous works.
I had a lot of fun and challenges with this series because I wanted to approach my characters with a more simple approach. When I create my collages, I get very carried away with the individual elements and the collages themselves become very labor intensive. However, I'm practicing another approach where I simplify my characters to communicate the essence of their energy with fewer shapes. It’s all about a practice of restraint and difficult choices - just like life!
