This piece depicts an artist in chaos and confusion, an artist who was still searching for her voice. I developed this woodblock based on particular creative rules I set up for myself during the execution - including cutting into the wood in a uneven way, foregoing clean borders, and letting go of any expectations I had for the final piece. A quote that inspired my production was one by Jack Kerouac who said, “I do not let my mind come in between my heart and my hands.”
