How do you foster community? I find deep fulfillment, love, and care through my friendships. I used to think that romantic relationships were the primary source of feeling loved and supported. But now I realize that friendships and deeply caring connections among friends are what truly sustain us.

Another way to express this is that the community we build around us—one that practices mutual aid, deep care, support, and emotional intimacy—enables us to achieve anything.

Community is the way forward. We are in a moment of polycrisis. To navigate the challenges facing our planet, the growing wealth inequality, and the lack of safety, we must build strong networks rooted in our communities.

I encourage everyone to find ways to connect with others, especially now, in our digital era, where loneliness is an epidemic. We can solve this by building community and not centering solely on romantic partnerships, but by opening ourselves to different kinds of relationships.
