This piece is about looking back to understand the present and imagine the future. These characters in this series caught in a reflective moment, gathering insights from their past to guide the present. While I don’t believe in holding onto the past, I do feel it offers lessons we can acknowledge, especially as we work to repair and restore today. The characters’ faces and bodies are built from different linoleum block shapes, each with its own story. These textured blocks—based on my sketches—appear as root systems, ocean waves, or shapes in conversation with each other. Sometimes they connect, almost forming an ancient language.
