This series celebrates my Andean mountain heritage. My people are from Peru, and we have a powerful, enduring relationship with the Andes Mountains. As a teenager, I traveled to Cusco to reconnect with and reclaim my ancestral culture, immersing myself in the colors, shapes, and geometry of the art. I am especially inspired by the precise stonework and forms used by the Inca in their architecture. Through these collages, I pay tribute to the Indigenous peoples of Peru who have sustained our culture, allowing those of us displaced by migration to continue celebrating it. While I often work with soft, curved shapes, this series leans into edges and triangles to create patterns that echo my cultura.
